Alzheimer & Dementia Projects
Dr Ibrahim Alladin, Patron of Association Alzheimer & Dementia, Mauritius (7 July, 2025)
It is indeed an honour for me to announce that I have been appointed the Patron of Association Alzheimer & Dementia Mauritius. The ALZHEIMER ASSOCIATION of Mauritius was officially registered on May 30, 2005, as a result of the efforts of a group of people from various areas of civil society, acting on their own or within organized NGOs, who were all concerned with the care of the elderly in a country with an aging population. Since 2009, we have been members of ADI (Alzheimer's Disease International), the International Federation of 85 Alzheimer's Associations worldwide. As the world’s population is aging, the number of those aged over 60 will rise, and the number of people with dementia will see a substantial increase. Worldwide, there are about 50 million people with Alzheimer's Disease, and it is predicted that the number could be over 100 million by 2050. In Mauritius, it is estimated that about 30,000 people have Alzheimer’s Disease. As the population is rapidly aging in Mauritius, we have a lot of challenges, and our intention is to acquire a modern resource, training, and research centre. I would like to thank Dr Ameenah Sorefan, President, and the Executive Members for their commitment and support. I invite all those who are interested to join us in our endeavours.
